There are so many people willing to give you advice on living a healthy life. They promise if you follow their word, and advice, you will be assured a great body and a healthy life. It seems with all these so called experts telling you what to do; it still comes down to following a few basic rules:

Get the proper sleep

Eat the right foods

Get some exercise.

Following these threerecommendations will give the majority of the population a wonderful and healthy life. In some cases, more needs to be done if a person has health issues. However these basic steps apply to most individuals,

You are what you eat

You may have heard the saying;“we are what we eat,” this is actually true. It may be not exactly literal, but it basically means that our bodies are fueled by what we eat. So everything we put in our mouths has a direct impact on our health. The more we ingest an item, the more it affects our bodies.

Healthy eating is one of the best ways to avoid medical conditions.

Getting the proper nutrition, proteins and other essential vitamins, help our system fight off disease that can plague our bodies. Eating healthy will fuel our body, and give us the proper energy.

Eating healthy also is brain power

The proper foods help us think more cognitively, and improve our attention. The people who are exercising, getting rest, and eating healthy are also controlling their weight, as well as improving their bodies.

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Back Pain – Understanding and Managing the Condition

When most of us hear the word “arthritis,” what we’re really picturing isn’t rheumatoid arthritis, but rather “osteoarthritis,” the most common form of the condition. The differences between the two forms vary drastically. Rheumatoid arthritis can be a crippling disease, and if you think you may be suffering from it, you should seek out a medical professional for treatment options right away.

What is Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)?

Rheumatoid arthritis affects the body’s flexible (Synovial) joints by inflaming and swelling the soft tissue (synovium) that surrounds these joints. In particular, two of these flexible joints related to your back and its dealings are:

the shoulder (glenohumeral) joint

the cervical spine – the part located directly below your skull and above your ribcage

Smaller joints, like those in the cervical spine, are most commonly affected by rheumatoid arthritis, but larger joints, like the shoulder, can also be affected, although this is less common.

Why Back Pain?

When the soft tissue becomes inflamed and swells, the joint becomes less flexible, leading to stiffness and varying degrees of discomfort. If the joints of the shoulder and cervical spine are affected by rheumatoid arthritis, back pain will probably be a likely occurrence.

However, the pain caused by RA can be felt throughout your body, not just in the area of the affected joints. This means you may have back pain without having a swollen or inflamed joint associated with that part of your body.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)Treatment Options

There is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis. However, through some treatments the destruction of the joints can be slowed, and the pain can be managed. These include, but are not limited to:

DMARDs (Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs) – used to slow the disease by reducing the rate of bone and cartilage deterioration

DMARDs are the only type of drug that will slow the progression of rheumatoid arthritis

Prescribed, brand name drugs include: Plaquenil and Arava

NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) – used to lessen symptoms of RA, such as inflammation of the joints, but do not slow the progress of joint damage

Ibuprofen and Aspirin are over-the-counter NSAIDs

Prescribed, brand name drugs include: Naprosyn and Naprelan

Painkillers – used to ease the pain caused by RA, but these do little else to help treat and manage the condition

Tylenol and general acetaminophen are over-the-counter pain relievers

Prescribed, brand name drugs include: Codeine and Vicodin

Cortisone Therapy – useful for suppressing inflammation of the joints in the short term, but research suggests it’s less effective over the long term

Physical Therapy – maintaining the flexibility and strength of your joints with regular exercise is important to living well with rheumatoid arthritis and will likely also ease the frequency and intensity of back pain

Surgery – sometimes surgery may be performed to slow the progress of the disease (before cartilage damage) or replace affected joints

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)Final Notes

If you believe you may have rheumatoid arthritis, please seek treatment from a qualified, medical professional. By following their advice and direction you may be able to greatly decrease both the destructive progress of the disease and the severity of the pain, including any back pain caused by RA or otherwise.

Only a medical professional can provide you with a correct diagnosis and course of treatment. Please seek help for rheumatoid arthritis. There’s no need to suffer with the pain and swelling when treatments are widely available.

Abdominal strain isn’t pretty. True, it’s a muscle strain, but unlike most other muscle strains, an abdominal muscle strain typically isn’t one you can sport with ease or dignity. They hurt; at best, they feel awkward internally, while also making you feel awkward as a social human being. Abdominal strains are just about the worst. Recovery time can be sped up by knowing:

how to identify an abdominal strain when you have one

what caused it to begin with

what you should do to treat it effectively

Symptoms

An abdominal strain can be anything from a slight over-stretching of the muscles to a partial muscle tear or complete muscle rupture. Despite these varying degrees of severity, no matter how serious the injury is a few symptoms will always remain constant:

● sudden onset of pain

● localized pain

● localized swelling

● pain increases with movement

If you are experiencing just those symptoms, you more than likely over-stretched your muscle; a common occurrence, especially in athletes and exercise enthusiasts.

A partial tear in your abdominal muscles will include the above symptoms, but will also typically cause:

● localized discoloration

● tenderness to the touch

An abdominal strain that involves musculature rupturing will include all of the above symptoms, but may also include the symptoms of shock, which can manifest as:

● nausea

● vomiting

● rapid heart rate

● excessive sweating

● pallor (paleness of color in the skin)

Causes

Any type of abdominal strain can be caused by suddenly twisting your abdomen or by bending too far backwards (hyperextending your spine). Keeping your abdominal muscles flexible can prevent an abdominal strain, and this is especially important for athletes, who typically use their abdominal muscles more often than others.

Treatments

If you believe you have torn or ruptured your abdominal muscles, please seek medical attention. You may have done damage to other parts of your body, as well as the musculature of your abdominal wall. Also, it’s not uncommon to use therapeutic ultrasound to help heal severe abdominal strains, and this is a procedure that in most cases needs to be performed in your medical professional’s office.

If the abdominal strain is mild, any of the treatments that make up the UH-OH system should help to heal the strain and alleviate your pain:

● Unwarm – ice the pained area, but never for more than 20 minutes at a time

● Halt – stop whatever activity you were doing at the onset of the pain and rest for a few days

● Outfit – wrap your abdomen with a bandage, applying slight compression

● Height – keep the strained area as level with your heart as possible to facilitate blood flow

Final Notes

If you find yourself wondering if your abdominal strain is serious enough for you to seek medical attention: please seek medical attention. The “wait-and-see” method is often the worst way to go about deciding whether to visit your local medical professional, and with a muscle strain that could be a tear or rupture, you could just be causing yourself more injury by “waiting” and “seeing.” Take care of yourself, first and foremost, and don’t take unnecessary risks with your health, whether or it involves abdominal strains or not.

People who have Type II Diabetes need to watch what they eat. The amount of food intake is an important factor. Type II Diabetes is the most common form of Diabetes. Millions of people suffer form this disease, and many others are facing the risks of contracting it as well.

What is Type II Diabetes?

Type II Diabetes is where the body does not produce enough insulin or the body’s cells do not respond to insulin. This results in the inability of the body to produce energy derived from glucose. This failure of the immune system stems directly from the foods we eat. Therefore people with Type II Diabetes need to strictly watch their diet, and follow a plan.

It is important to eat healthful foods.

This is actually true for everyone; even those who do not have Type II Diabetes. Eating whole grains and vegetables is essential for good health. Stay away from fatty foods and too many sweets. Fats have a direct affect on a person’s blood sugar and can cause serious problems for people who have Diabetes.

Lowering Your Calorie Intake is Important

Many doctors have strayed away from an extreme Type II Diabetes diet, to a lesser, more moderate form of controlling the disease. Maintaining a proper weight by lowering your calorie intake is also necessary when it comes to a Type II diabetic diet.

Exercising also directly affects your blood glucose level

Moderate exercise and eating properly are the key factors to controlling your Diabetes. It’s important to follow your doctor’s plan because everyone does not have the same degree of Type II Diabetes. Diet may be altered depending on each individual case.

Many people struggle with weight gain or being overweight their entire lives. The sad truth is that obesity in kids have risen to staggering numbers in the past couple decades. Being overweight is never a good thing in adults, but being obese as a child is even worse. Obesity in children can cause a lifetime of medical problems. These issues can even be so severe that they can cause problems to their vital organs, such as their heart and liver. Controlling obesity in kids is very important. This may not be an easy task but by doing so, it may save a child from a lifetime of medical problems.

One of the causes of obesity in kids is a lack of exercise

Video games, television, and electronic toys and cell phones, have taken the place of exercise, and activities. These diversions may be entertaining but if you have an overweight child, you will have to enforce limits on these items, and suggest other activities instead.

The biggest reason for obesity in kids is improper diet

There are so many junk food items available that contain large amounts of fat, and sugar that cause weight gain. Fast foods, processed foods and snacks also contain very large amounts of calories, and very little ingredients that assist the body in processing foods correctly. Watching what your child is eating, and ensuring a proper diet will ensure that your child does not become overweight. A good diet and proper exercise are the best way to fight obesity in kids.

There are hundreds of different types of allergies. Some allergic reactions come from environmental causes, such as dust, pet dander, and pollen. Food allergies make up a large percentage of the allergies found in adults and children. Some food allergies are mild and cause minimal discomfort. Other food allergies can be quiet serious and even fatal if not treated immediately. The main issue is to find the food group or item that is causing your allergy. The next step is to start a food allergy diet that will ensure that the allergen is not in a recipe or accidentally ingested.

Managing multiple food allergies can be quite tricky

Having a mild food allergy or only being allergic to one food group is not difficult to manage. However if you suffer from multiple food allergens and have severe symptoms, managing your food allergy diet can be quite tricky. There are several books and websites available for people with multiple food allergies. Your food allergy diet must be adjusted to eliminate the allergens, yet still give you the nutrients needed for good health.

Example of changes to your Diet

Protein is found in most meats such as beef, pork and chicken, but if you are allergic to these items, you still need to get the necessary protein elsewhere. One possible alternative is eating game instead of the normal processed meat. Game is less harsh on your stomach and intestines and has been proven to be a good choice for many people who have allergies to meat. This is just one example of a food allergy diet a person can follow. However always check with your doctor when selecting a food allergy diet.

Kids today are far less active than years before. High tech computer games have replaced playing outside and other physical activities. The vast amounts of junk foods available have lead to higher levels of medical problems with kids, such as obesity and intestinal problems.

Proper Nutrition for Kids is Essential, Maybe More so Then in Adults

Children’s bodies are in the growing stage so it’s important that they receive proper nutrition to aid in their development. Good nutrition can ward off chronic illnesses, as well as serious and life threatening problems down the road. Studies show that proper nutrition in children reduces the risk of medical problems that might develop from the lack of vitamins and nutrients.

Get your Children Started early with Proper Nutrition

It’s hard to teach good eating habits to kids, so it’s important to get them started early. Introduce your toddler to all types of healthful foods. Vegetables are essential for good health so try getting you’re small child to taste them. Try different types of vegetables. You may get lucky and they will like certain ones.

Avoid Junk Food!

Feeding your children good tasting junk food early may cause them to never like the taste of healthful food. A balanced diet of all the food groups is important, however forcing children to eat what they don’t like, never seems to work. Keep introducing them to healthful foods, but don’t force them to eat something they don’t like. Let them discover on their own what they like. You may be surprised if they have many choices in the foods that are available to eat. They just might find themselves liking spinach. Good luck!

There are millions of people who are overweight and are trying to lose those extra pounds. Exercise is important in our daily lives, and even more so when trying to lose weight. Another important factor is controlling our food intake.

Make Sure Your Weight Loss Plan is Balanced

It is important to have a weight loss plan and that includes a healthful diet. The first thing people think of is how much food we eat. This is important, but also important are the types of foods we eat, and a balanced diet. Good nutrition is essential for quality health but is also vital to lose weight. Eating the right combination of foods is not only good for your overall health; it can also promote weight loss.

Another Key Factor in a Weight Loss Diet is Water

Drinking water flushes out the body of impurities trapped inside your body. These impurities can keep weight on the body. Drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water per day is recommended to cleanse the body and also to jump start dropping off pounds.

Eat Smaller Portions of Each Food Group

You don’t need to starve yourself to lose weight, just eat less, and eat healthier. Salt retains water which causes weight gain. Watch your salt intake. Avoid too much sugar. A healthy substitute for sugar is cinnamon. This spice is known to curb the craving for sugar, and is low in fat. Fresh fruit instead of candy or cakes is also a wise choice for a low fat weight loss diet.

Many people care about their health but sadly many do not.

Exercise, stress avoidance, and rest are essential habits for good health. Another important factor is a healthful diet. Nutrition and eating the right amount of the food groups are important to keeping our body’s strong and functioning properly. The proper nutrition not only fuels our body, it also reduces the risk of chronic illnesses. Proper nutrition also prevents obesity, heart attacks, and even cancer.

A healthy diet is more then eating the right foods

It’s also about how much we eat, the combination of the food groups, the amount of water we drink, and the proper amount of nutrients. It’s also about what food groups to avoid. Processed or fast food should be limited or even eliminated.

Avoid Fad Diets

People tend to try fad diets which may reduce weight, but also starves the body of essential nutrients to obtain proper health. These diets can be dangerous to some people and can cause severe health issues to the liver, heart and other vital organs.

The key to a healthy diet is to eat in moderation

Fresh vegetables, fruit and small portions of fish or chicken are some healthy food groups. Watch your salt intake and substitute herbs and spices, instead of salt and sugar. Eating the right amount of food and the right food groups is essential for good health, a strong body, and to fight off illnesses, and risks of injuries and dangerous medical conditions.

We live in a fast pace world, and because of that, people tend to eat too much processed or prepared food.

What most people don’t realize is that these processed foods often contain a large amount of sodium. Our bodies require sodium to maintain health however the amount of sodium in certain foods is way above the necessary amount needed, sometimes dangerously over the limit. A low sodium diet may be the right choice for some people who have certain health issues. It’s essential that people read the labels on food items to find out the amount of sodium they are ingesting.

What is a Low Sodium Diet?

A low sodium diet is basically a diet which contains no more then 2400 mgs of sodium per day. This figure can be lower depending on what your physician prescribes. To put this in perspective, a teaspoon of salt contains about 2300 mgs of sodium. The human body requires only about 69 mgs of sodium per day. Anything under 2400 mgs of sodium is considered a low sodium diet.

How to Control Sodium Levels

The best way to control your sodium levels is to stay away from salt, or foods that contain large amounts of salt. Eat fresh vegetables, fruits and obviously don’t add table salt to the foods you are preparing. Avoid soda pop and water that is softened by the use of a water softener. If you do purchase processed foods, read the label. There are also many foods that are marketed as low sodium, but you should still read the label and the watch the portion intake.
