Seeing a chiropractor in Brewster, NY as part of a team plan

Getting back to training, work or everyday activities often takes more than one kind of care. At PMR of Brewster, your chiropractor, physical therapy clinicians, massage therapist and acupuncturist work from a single plan, with physiatry on hand when you need a medical opinion.

Early visits usually focus on calming pain and restoring motion. As you improve, the emphasis often moves to strength and conditioning work with our trainers. If your symptoms suggest something beyond what chiropractic and physical therapy treat, we’ll coordinate with your doctor or refer you to one. Results vary.

Insurance for New York patients

Most major health plans work at PMR, including New York plans such as the NYSHIP Empire Plan, CDPHP (Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan) and Crystal Run, plus UnitedHealthcare, Oxford, Aetna, Cigna, UMR and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Medicare, Medicaid, Fidelis and Affinity are not accepted.

PMR submits claims for you and reviews your benefits at your first visit. Questions? The billing office can help at (203) 744-8014, or see insurance and billing.

New York no-fault and workers’ compensation

After a car accident

New York uses no-fault insurance: personal injury protection (PIP) pays for necessary medical care and lost earnings, with a limit of $50,000 per person, whoever caused the crash. Your NF-2 (application for benefits) is due to the insurer within 30 days after the accident. After you sign an assignment of benefits (NF-AOB), we bill the insurer directly at fee-schedule rates.

No-fault covers physical therapy only with a referral. The insurer can also require an independent medical examination (IME), and an IME can end benefits; disputes can go to arbitration. Details are in our guide to no-fault care in New York.

After a work injury

New York requires workers’ comp treatment from a Board-authorized provider, and there are no copays. Give your employer written notice within 30 days; the deadline to file Form C-3 is two years. You may pick any authorized provider, but if your employer uses a PPO, you may have to stay in its network for the first 30 days. Physical therapy needs a referral. See New York workers’ compensation for details.

Frequently asked questions

Is a referral required for physical therapy in Brewster, NY?

Often not. If the physical therapist has practiced full time for three years or more, New York lets them see you for up to 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first, with no referral needed, and you’ll get written notice about coverage. No-fault and workers’ comp cases still require a referral, and some health plans ask for one as well.

When should I come in after a car accident in New York?

If you’re seriously hurt, get emergency care first by calling 911 or going to the ER. An early exam records your injuries while they’re fresh. Keep the no-fault clock in mind too: the NF-2 application has a 30-day deadline from the date of the accident.

Does PMR of Brewster work with athletes?

Yes. Dr. Paul Ciatto has a particular interest in athlete rehabilitation and strength training, and Dr. Chris Shay’s work centers on sports-related injuries and physical fitness. Your plan can combine chiropractic care, physical therapy and massage with conditioning work in the on-site gym, progressing from easing pain toward the strength and control your sport demands.
