At PMR, our approaches are always holistic and comprehensive, and we often focus on those qualities when comparing our modalities to traditional Western medical practices. However, our modalities are also non-surgical and non-invasive, and that’s just as important.

In some cases, an injury or chronic pain may require surgery, and we can work with your physician to supplement your care in those situations. But before resorting to more invasive techniques, we’ll first strive to resolve your pain or injury with non-invasive alternatives, which have many distinct advantages when compared to surgery.

No Wounds or Scars

When non-invasive procedures can be used in place of surgical options, the patient avoids having an incision made. Though it’s true that this will prevent the unsightly scars that are sometimes associated with surgery, the advantages aren’t just cosmetic. When there’s no wound, there’s also a much smaller chance of developing a bacterial infection or other complications following surgery. In fact, the health risks are lower across the board for non-invasive procedures and modalities.

Reducing Pain and Discomfort

One of our primary goals at PMR is to minimize, as much as possible, the pain and discomfort experienced by our patients. According to studies cited by the University of Chicago Medicine, which practices minimally invasive surgery (MIS) techniques, patients undergoing MIS have less pain and require less pain medication as compared to those undergoing surgery. Non-invasive procedures can also generally be performed without anesthesia. In the long term, that means that not only do these patients experience less pain and discomfort, but their health care costs are likely lower, too.

Back on Track Faster

Surgical procedures often necessitate long recovery times. You may need to stay at the hospital longer, with a growing bill, while unable to return to work. With non-invasive procedures, this is rarely an issue. In fact, you may be completely done and returning home (or to work) within a couple of hours. Once again, the less invasive, non-surgical option can save you money, time, and headaches.
