Electromyography – the PMR Approach
Electromyography (EMG) is a technique for evaluating and recording physiologic properties of muscles at rest and while contracting. If you have symptoms of weakness and impaired muscle strength, electromyography may be the tool needed to differentiate between primary muscle conditions and muscle weakness caused by neurological disorders. Electromyography measures the electrical activity of muscles at rest and during contraction.
Physical Medicine of NY & CT uses electromyography to assess the health of muscles and the nerves controlling those muscles. Electromyography is used to determine if there is nerve compression or injury, or nerve root injury. Electromyography can greatly add to the ability to find the cause of weakness, paralysis or muscle twitching.
What to Expect During Electromyography
An electromyography detects the electrical potential generated by your muscle cells when your cells contract, and also when your cells are at rest. Your electromyography will show if you have abnormal electrical activity of the muscles. Any damage to your peripheral nervous system will be uncovered through an electromyography procedure.
Physical Medicine of NY & CT provides a treatment plan that includes the initial consultation, the diagnosis phase, the treatment plan, and most importantly the rehabilitation and ongoing well-being treatment plan. This is customized for each patient as recovery is our top priority.
